Martin / 1968 D-35
The D-35 debuted in 1965 due to the depletion of rosewood used in Martin's flagship models like the Style-28 and Style-40.
By adopting a 3-piece rosewood back, it offered the advantage of using less wood area compared to a 2-piece back.
Later, its popularity rivaled the D-28 thanks to use by artists including Thom Yorke and Takuro Yoshida.
ーThree-piece Rosewood Back
The sides and back of the dreadnought body are adorned with quarter-sawn 3P rosewood.
Compared to the 2P used on the Style-28, it produces a softer resonance and a well-balanced, rich tone.

The top is crafted from spruce, with multi-stripe binding accentuating the body.

The pickguard has been replaced with an unpainted version.

The fingerboard is ebony with dot position markers.
Binding on the fingerboard sides is another point of difference from the D-28.

The neck is mahogany with a soft V-shaped grip.
Combined with a 42mm nut width, it offers an optimal feel.
Another major feature of this period is the use of square rods.

The ebony down-bowed bridge is fitted with a short saddle.

The rosewood veneer headstock features rounded corners, characteristic of the 60s.
It also bears the C.F. Martin classic logo decal.

The tuning machines are Grover 102s with the "PAT" stamp.
These pegs were used until around 1978.

Unlike the D-28, it features distinct visual differences such as the back wood appearance and fingerboard side binding. Its unique charm lies in the D-35's gentle, resonant tone throughout.
If you're not satisfied with the D-28, we highly recommend trying this model.
