A faded cherry sunburst color that symbolizes the vintage J-45s of the mid-1960s.
The pickguard is a thin celluloid large pickguard. The pegs are single-line Cruson Deluxe. This 1964 is the last year for all of them, and it may be rare to find an early 1960s specification in this orange sunburst color.
The bridge plate has four marks where screw holes were filled in, indicating that it was originally equipped with a bridge plate; the use of plastic bridges on J-45s is confirmed from 1962 to 1964. It is definitely correct as it fits the time period. The bridge is made of ebony that is smoothly molded over both ends. It is finished and glued without any discrepancy, and the holes in the bridge plate have been carefully filled in, so you can imagine that a very skilled craftsman has maintained it. The sound is even tighter than the plastic bridge model, and has a clear contour.
Vintage J-45 all veneer or plywood?
There is one more interesting point about this piece. It is about whether vintage J-45 is all veneer or all plywood. We can confirm that the body top is veneer. It is not easy to check the side back. It is sometimes possible to judge by the presence or absence of the split stopper on the side of the body, and some Gibsons of the time also had such stoppers, but this alone does not give the impression that "This is veneer! I have the impression that it is not possible to say "This is veneer! Current Gibsons are sometimes veneers without split stoppers, so it is difficult to distinguish between vintage and modern Gibsons. So one thing I refer to is the extended endpin holes. The endpin hole is originally screwed, but some Gibsons have extended the hole for endpin part along with pickup installation. This one also has such a history of processing. If you look closely at the hole, you can see two pieces of mahogany are laminated together, each piece is about 1.5mm thick, and the total thickness of the two pieces is about 3mm. The body sides of this J-45 are most likely plywood.
There is no need to worry that plywood will sound cheap. There is no need to worry that the plywood will sound cheap. The laminated body side suppresses the vibration of the body side, The laminated body side suppresses the vibration of the body side, and the so-called "pump function" is activated, resulting in a change in the way the sound goes to the soundhole. Some high-end guitars in recent years have intentionally incorporated such acoustic design. Therefore, it is true that plywood has its own individuality and charm that cannot be simply described in terms of "plywood = inferior. In fact, this J-45 also has a tight sound, The adjustable saddle is a good match, and you can enjoy a propulsive and crisp tone.
The weather checks are austere in appearance and have a vintage look. It is very comfortable to play, and if you are attracted to its sound and looks, please welcome it as a lifelong partner.
It also comes with the original chipboard case in good condition with the Gibson logo still clearly visible.
Please see the [Condition] section below for replacement parts, modification history, etc.

Resonant sound is produced when played with a pick or thumb, due to the combination of tension on strings 3 & 4, etc. I think it can produce a very good flavor when you want to accentuate a phrase.
