Gibson flat-top acoustic guitars have been split in popularity with Martin guitars, and have gained overwhelming presence and popularity. The many famous models that have appeared as a result of trial and error and overcoming the harsh conditions of wartime are truly the history of the flat-top guitar itself.
Among them, the Jumbo 200, nicknamed "the king of flat-top guitars," has a special aura as a high-end model.
The Gibson Super Jumbo was born in 1937. The Super Jumbo was born in 1937, when cowboy star Ray Whitley and Gibson's Guy Hart met at the Madison Square Garden Rodeo, and Ray suggested that Gibson build a guitar with a "super funky, super country design. Later, it was used by famous country singers such as Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, and Jimmy Wakely, and quickly became a popular model in the Gibson flat-top world. In 1939, the SJ-200 was officially named the "Super Jumbo 200" due to its $200 list price at the time, and about 100 were produced until 1942.

After the war, it was re-released as the "J-200" in 1946. The main feature of the postwar model was that the prewar model had rosewood sides and back, while the postwar model had maple sides and back (only two maple side and back models were produced as a custom order before the war). Also, in '48, natural color was introduced, the peg head became single-layer cell binding, and after '49, the body thickness increased from 4 1/2" to 4 2/3", 4 7/8" in '52, and 5" in the mid-'60s.
The "Jumbo 200" was used not only by country musicians but also by legendary artists such as Elvis Presley and Keith Richards, and continues to reign supreme as the eternal Gibson model.
The Gibson Custom Shop is currently produced by the Montana Factory Team, led by master luthier Len Ferguson, and for the 100th anniversary in 1994, Len and John Walker, the custom luthier at the time, teamed up to create a new, unprecedented, ultra-luxurious, flat-playing model. Len and John Walker, then a custom luthier, teamed up to produce some of the most luxurious flat-top acoustic guitars ever made. Although Gibson has always been a step behind Martin when it comes to luxurious inlays, the 100th anniversary model SJ-200 introduced here is a gem of a guitar that boasts a strong impact, originality, and a sense of luxury. We hope you will take this opportunity to own one of the world's one and only top-quality items.
