"Kanstal," a comprehensive American wind instrument manufacturer, brought its long history to a close in 2019, much to the regret of many.
While the company produced attractive instruments under its own brand, it also served as an OEM manufacturer for other brands and supplied valve casings; consequently, the music industry was significantly impacted by its closure.
Because various manufacturers and brands—including Jérôme Carre, the early Charlie Davis, reissued F. Besson, and Burbank—had ties to Constal, there were reportedly many concerns regarding the availability of replacement parts.
While felt and cork, which wear out over time, can be replaced, it is not uncommon for there to be no substitutes available when metal parts are missing.
Therefore, at Kubo Kan, to ensure that you can continue to use your Constal-series instruments with confidence, we have reissued the valve guides inside the pistons—a “part that wears out but is difficult to replace.”
It’s true that Constal’s valve guides have a somewhat unique design. None from other manufacturers seem to fit quite right…
We’ve seen cases where, after many years of use, valves start to spin freely—whether the guides are plastic or brass—and, considering the next few decades, we anticipated that some players would need these replacements, which led us to produce them.
