Gibson / 2003 J-160E
First produced in 1954, the Gibson J-160E was a groundbreaking model for its time. It featured the company's J-45 body with a P-90 pickup for electric guitars and adopted the gold hat knobs used on Les Pauls.

The difference from the J-45 wasn't just the pickup.
The X-bracing used on the J-45 caused feedback issues due to internal resonance, so ladder bracing was adopted, positioned horizontally relative to the body.
The spruce top on early J-160E models used solid wood, but it was changed to laminated wood to suppress resonance.
This change was necessary to make the J-160E truly practical for live performance.

The adjustable saddle system, allowing players to customize string height, was a groundbreaking idea alongside the P-90 pickup.

The model we present today, the 2003 J-160E, is a modern reinterpretation of this instrument steeped in such rich history.
The laminated spruce top and laminated mahogany sides/back reveal its construction is based on the later J-160E models.
Ladder bracing is standard, and of course it features P-90 pickups. The volume and tone controls allow sound shaping to suit the player's preference, which is surely one of its charms?

The sound the J-160E produces differs from the J-45, characterized by bass with just the right thickness and sustain that stretches nicely.
While its brilliance is subdued, when amplified, you can enjoy the P-90's signature thick, focused sound and crisp highs.

Experience the beloved sound of the J-160E, cherished by John Lennon and George Harrison.
