Gibson / 1990 Chet Atkins CE
"You can't take a classical guitar on stage..."
This was a very real and serious problem nylon-string guitar players faced.
How could the quiet, delicate sound of nylon strings be reproduced on large stages and in recordings?
The man who tackled this problem head-on was "Mr. Guitar" himself, Chet Atkins, together with Gibson.
The Gibson Chet Atkins CE is the signature model that embodies his ideal.

Introduced in 1982 and discontinued in the mid-2000s to much regret, it remains a guitar players continue to seek out.
Behind this lies the fact that it expanded the definition of "what a classical guitar can do."
It minimizes the risk of feedback and delivers a stable sound in any environment.
Moreover, it surprisingly preserves the sweetness and transparency unique to nylon strings.
In essence, it's a model that fuses naturalness and practicality to the extreme.
Spruce for the top, mahogany for the sides and back.

The balance between expressive mid-to-high frequencies and clearly defined bass is truly worthy of trust as recording equipment.
Whether lightly strummed with a pick or deeply plucked with fingers, the sound remains clear and focused, bringing only the intended tone to the forefront.
The neck is mahogany.
The nut width is 45.5mm, slimmer than traditional classical guitars, with an exquisite thickness that fits comfortably in the hand.

Designed for comfortable playing across country, jazz, bossa nova, chord voicings, and solo work.
It responds to even the most aggressive playing—uncommon for a nylon-string guitar—making it the ideal instrument for players seeking the delicacy of a classical guitar combined with the playability of an electric guitar.
The volume and tone controls positioned on the body side are perfectly placed, making it ready for action even when plugged directly into an amp.

The ability to adjust the sound on the spot for live performances or recording is a major strength.
And the gold foil stamping of Chet Atkins' name and the Gibson logo on the soundhole cover.
This quietly tells the story that this is an "instrument" imbued with Atkins' spirit.
If you've been drawn to the sound of nylon strings but struggled to reconcile them with your playing environment or style,
the answer is likely right here.
Just the one that fits your music.
And you'll surely be amazed by the fact that it was perfected over 40 years ago by the ears and fingertips of the legendary master, Chet Atkins.
