Gibson produced the Country Western around 1955 as a natural-finish version of the Southern Jumbo. Like the Southern Jumbo, it features mahogany sides and back, double parallelogram position markers, and the natural-finish top lends it a rustic feel. While the specifications themselves are nearly identical to the Southern Jumbo, there's a distinct difference in sound character between the two models.
Its appeal lies in the crisp, clear, and percussive sound with quick attack produced by the combination of the narrow neck and ceramic adjustable saddle. It's truly a guitar made for strumming.
Visually, there are pick-worn areas around the soundhole and other overall scuffs. The pickguard, bridge, saddle, and other major parts are original and in remarkably clean condition considering its age. The tuners have been replaced with 70s-era ones and still retain their shine.
Compared to the Southern Jumbo, the Country Western might seem slightly overshadowed, but its charm is something you'll definitely feel when you see and play the real thing.
