This is a late 1960s model from the Kalamazoo factory, where Gibson acoustic guitars were also produced.
Epiphone / FT-79 Cherry Red
This particular instrument features the rare "Cherry Red" finish, produced only briefly for just three years from 1967 to 1969, just like Gibson's.
Cherry Red exhibits unique fading patterns over time, giving each piece its own distinct character.
It's a beautiful color that lets you feel the history each instrument has lived through.
This particular piece boasts a lovely pale reddish-brown hue, with a rich luster and depth, making it a truly exceptional, dignified masterpiece.

Featuring a bolt-on pickguard, upper-berry adjustable bridge, wood saddle, and being from the late round-shoulder era, it's a truly rare specimen.

We happened to have a J-45 Cherry Red from the same year for comparison.
Despite being made in the same factory with nearly identical wood materials and design, the sound it produces is distinctly different from that of a Gibson from the same era – it's fascinating.

The primary reason is its longer scale length compared to the J-45, but this particular instrument also has a characteristically rustic, woody tone. That said, it delivers a genuine vintage sound.
It's a well-known story that the Beatles played "Yesterday" – arguably the most famous song using a Texan – in drop E tuning. Playing G chords in drop E on this instrument lets you experience "that" exact sound.
Epiphone remains an indispensable brand supporting acoustic guitar players worldwide today, carrying on the spirit of New York craftsmen.
Experiencing a page from that history is truly precious.
