1966 STRATOCASTER Sunburst / Rosewood

Vintage Stratocaster that is comfortable to play without being overbearing.

This highly original 1966 Fender Stratocaster was sold to CBS in January 1965. Leo Fender continued to support Fender as a consultant until his contract with CBS expired in 1970. This 1966 Stratocaster is a Stratocaster from the CBS period, but it still retains Leo Fender's strong will.

It features a transition logo, thick head, rundown board with the joint surface of the maple neck and rosewood fingerboard affixed along the radius, and a yellowish coloring in the center of the sunburst color on the body top that has lost its reddish hue due to direct sun exposure. The paint is also an ultra-thin lacquer coating, circa 1968, before it was replaced by polyurethane, based on Leo Fender's belief that the thinner the paint, the better.

The sound is different from the tenacious and strong Strat sound of the early 60's, with a light airy feel and a well-balanced sound that makes you want to play for hours on end. Personally, I would like to replace the original 3-way switch currently equipped with this guitar with a 5-way switch to enjoy the half tone. The sound of the pickups also allows you to enjoy the high frequency loss of the gray bobbin. This vintage Stratocaster can be used both as a collector's item and in practice.
