Description

Set of an old o-dozumi drum, old leather, and maki-e box from the Edo period

Outline
A set of old otsuzumi (large drum) body, old leather, and maki-e box.
The drum cylinder was made in the Edo period. The maki-e on the drum barrel is thought to have been re-marketed around the Meiji period (1868-1912).
The maki-e is decorated with a starling bird and a bamboo. It weighs 716 grams.

The planing is done in 16 steps both on the top and bottom of the barrel.
Vertical stripes of kanna-me can also be seen between the nests.

The old hides of the large tabor are included, although they are not practical. A dobukuro (body pouch), chikagio (a cord for checking), and a lacquer-lacquered box are included.

Column: Noh - Secrets of the Four Beats (Flute, Kotsuzumi, Otsuzumi, and Taiko)
