First generation Castros Santana model with piezo pickups added.
The Santana signature model continues to attract not only Santana fans but also many guitarists with its fat, extended sound and high performance. The first Carlos Santana signature SANTANA I is especially fondly remembered by fans, with its nearly symmetric mahogany body and gorgeous figured maple top. The neck is thicker with a grippy feel. The bridge is equipped with a PRS tremolo. The symmetric head design, which is unique to the Santana model, is also impressive. This model is equipped with a piezo pickup, and although it lacks a tone control, it is one that allows a more acoustic approach.
[Paul Reed Smith and the Santana model
Paul Reed Smith began repairing and building guitars in earnest on West Street in Annapolis, Maryland, in late 1975, and in 1980 he built three guitars for his beloved guitarist, Carlos Santana. The model developed at Santana's request featured a double cutaway body shape, a headstock called the Santana Head, a slightly shorter 24.5" scale, a flat 11.5" R fingerboard, and a fat grip. The new guitar quickly became Santana's main instrument, and to this day it continues to make a strong impression on his fans as his favorite instrument.
