First Year J-160E Reissue Closer to the Original
Gibson / 1996 1964 J-160E
The 1964 J-160E is so famous for John Lennon's use.
The original is now at a premium among 1960s Gibson flat-tops, and is a very valuable model.
The J-160E is a reissue model made in 1996.
The J-160E was revived around 1990 when the Montana factory was relocated, but until 1995, it had a solid body top and X-bracing.
In 1996, the specifications were changed to laminate body top, ladder bracing, adjustable bridge, etc., and it became more similar to the original 1964 model.
The body sides and top are laminated, and the body back is veneer, which gives it a hard, crisp sound and a deep bass tone.
It is a must have for those who want to play acoustic guitars with a crisp sound and deep bass, as the sound does not collapse or break up when playing like cutting.
I chose 0.60mm picks for the sound, which I thought would be suitable for this guitar.
The frets have been refretted with wider frets to match the original, and the fret height is much higher than the original.
The pegs have been replaced with Goto's Cruson-style 1-barrel pegs.
The saddle has also been replaced with a wooden frame with a resin saddle.
This instrument is a must-have for those who play it.
The J-160E is rarely reissued as a new model, so it is a rare instrument with a unique look and sound.
