The J-45 and J-50 have been Gibson's top-selling flat-top guitars from their birth to today. The difference between the J-45 and J-50 is in the color and the quality of the spruce used for the top. The J-50 uses a natural finish, which means that only the best-grained spruce from the stock is used instead of knotty pieces. Therefore, the J-50 was more expensive at the time.
This 1963 J-50 has a regular neck with a nut width of 42mm, a head angle of about 17 degrees, and a plastic bridge. The head angle was changed to about 14 degrees around 1965 with the shift to a narrow neck, and this head angle gives a slightly stronger tension feel than on later J-50s, resulting in a bouncier sound and longer sustain, as if the player were playing a long scale.
The plastic bridge has a hollow structure, which adds a moderate airiness to the sound, and also adds a sense of spaciousness, allowing you to maximize the "Gibson Vintage" that can only be experienced with this specification and this age. Most of these bridges are distorted and often replaced with wooden bridges, but this one has only a few gaps and minimal distortion. In this sense, it is a valuable item.
