We have just received a vintage J-45 in excellent condition with a beautiful red and yellow top finish. There were several sunburst colors in the early 1960s alone, and this reddish finish is typical of the 1962-1963 period. If you can tell the approximate year just by the color of the sunburst, you must be a serious Gibson connoisseur.
The finish is not the only specification unique to this period. The thin large pickguard, which determines the look of this piece, is the original lacquered type, and has a reddish tint due to the bright underlying finish. It is normal for cracks to occur in the vicinity of the pickguard, but miraculously, this piece has no such cracks around the pickguard. You can tell that it has been carefully handled by the previous owners.
The bridge is plastic. There are no major distortions or cracks, and the condition is very stable. There are no problems in use.
The adjustable saddle is a shiny ceramic type. (There are also non-glossy saddles and wood saddles for the later period, I think that many people who are looking for an early model are also looking for this part.
The neck is a regular neck with a nut width of 42mm. Although it is a kamaboko type, it does not feel that thin, The nut is the original Delrin, and the head is the original Delrin. The nut is the original Delrin, and the head is equipped with a single line Cruson tuner.
The sound is also fully enjoyable with thick bass and clear treble. Not to mention the jangly feel typical of a J-45, The hollow plastic bridge and hard, shiny ceramic saddle also contribute to the balance of the sound, and when you play arpeggios under the soundhole, you can enjoy a sparkling tone. The expressive tone has great potential for recording and other applications.
The exterior condition is also very good considering its age, making it a highly collectible item.
