Along with the D-28, the "D-18" continues to be loved by people. Since its introduction in 1931, this model has been loved by legends such as Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain, and Eric Clapton. The Gibson J-45, which has the same mahogany body, has a completely different character from the Gibson J-18.
The one introduced here is a D-18 made in 1960.
The production was low at that time, with only 195 pieces of D-18 alone. This was a time when production had not yet reached its peak. Skilled craftsmen must have spent a lot of time on the production.
And now, 65 years after its production, it has taken on an imposing appearance. This is the vintage! The dignified appearance of this piece, however technologically advanced it may be today, is a true testament to the quality of the craftsmanship of the craftsmen who made it.NewThe dignified appearance of this vintage cannot be reproduced in any other way, no matter how advanced technology may be today.
The original tortoiseshell pickguard is still in place and gives off a great atmosphere.
The pegs are equipped with waffle backs. If you look closely, you can see the hole for the knob shaft on the cover.
The black and suggestive texture of the Hakaranda used for the fingerboard and bridge is irresistible.
And the sound is the best of all. The popularity of the 60's Martin goes without saying, but this one has an exquisite mahogany sound that matches the expected appearance of a guitar that has been played to the fullest.
I was surprised at the mellowness and colorfulness of the sound after playing a single chord.
At the moment of attack, I heard a "bang" and a "pop"! The whole body shakes, not just the strings, as if the strings are popping. You can tell that the body continues to tremble until the reverberation disappears. The core of the sound is also solid, with a massive bass sound and power that does not lose to strong picking. This is one that inspires the player with stroke after stroke.
