This 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard features a maple neck that produces a strong and clear sound with a strong attack. The large head and the volute on the back of the neck give this Les Paul a distinctive look. The neck is made of maple, which is harder than mahogany wood, to achieve a thin and highly playable neck, and to produce a high range and excellent sustain. The heavy, dense, high-quality mahogany body with firm contours and low mids is also attractive. The sound is not buried in distortion and has a sense of power, and there are many musicians, such as Zakk Wylde, who love the maple neck Les Paul with this specification.
