Description

Rare American vintage tenor model along with Selmer SBA, Cone 10M " Lady Face" early production

[Overview]
Cone Vintage Tenor Saxophone 10M " Lady Face". Lacquered finish. Made in 1936. Includes: vintage hard case (exterior scuffed and scratched).

[Condition.]
Neck, U-tube, and several dents on the base of the key. Octave tone holes fixed (body side). Repainted. The lacquer looks to be factory lacquer from around 1960. All keys disassembled, cleaned inside and out, all pads and soft parts replaced, and overhauled and adjusted. The right hand E♭ trill key has been adjusted to be movable.
*...Right hand E♭ trill key. used for D-E♭ and F-E♭ trills. When the middle finger of the right hand is removed, a small tone hole on the lower side of the body opens. A feature of the time that corresponded to the musical notation of the heyday of swing jazz.

[Features]
This is an early production of the "Lady Face," the final model of the golden age of cone saxophones. The "Lady Face" has a deep, thick sound that fills the space that only a cone saxophone can, combined with a straight, aggressive side. The "Lady Face" was used by many jazz giants of the time, including Charlie Parker (6M) on alto, Lester Young at the height of his career on tenor, and Dexter Gordon until the mid-1960s, and many great performances have been left behind. The early "Lady Face" models were especially popular, and like Selmer's SBA, the number of these instruments in the market today is decreasing year by year.
