The name "Custom Crimson" comes from the red "Crimson" tape that the Custom Shop puts on all "One of a Kind" orders when they are sent to the production line, with the order number linked to the spec sheet so that the craftsmen can recognize it. The name "Crimson" comes from the red tape. Mike McGuire, who is supervising this project, established "Varley Arts" in the 1970s and built relationships with famous guitarists such as "Larry Carlton," "Lee Ritner," and "Steve Lukather," and became a Gibson Custom Shop employee in 1993. He is a living legend in the industry.
The L-9 Archtop is the pinnacle of the modern archtop model from Gibson, a company that has been making archtop guitars since the 1890s. The L-9 Archtop is the ultimate modern archtop model. While utilizing the know-how of the traditional archtop model, the L-9 Archtop features a modern Les Paul-like archtop, beautiful flame maple body top, mahogany sides and back, and a thick 50's style neck with a short scale neck, making it highly playable and attractive.
