Ovation's history began in 1964 when founder Charlie Kaman started making guitars in a helicopter blade factory in Connecticut, U.S.A. The Super Adamas is still one of the most popular guitars in Ovation's history.
Featuring a carbon graphite top developed by Ovation and a walnut bridge and headstock carved with a luxurious feel, the Super Adamas made an impressive debut in 1976 with its original appearance and excellent performance.
In Japan, the instrument's popularity was spurred by its use by prominent musicians of the day, such as Minami Kosetsu and Matsuyama Chiharu, and it quickly became a focal point of the electric acoustic scene. The great appeal of these instruments was not only their high response and distinctive, high-quality sound, but also the fact that they were made of materials suitable for live performances and recordings and were extremely durable.
In recent years, minor changes have been made to the Adamas, including improvements to the preamp and internal construction, but many users are still looking for the '70s and early '80s models.
The one introduced here is also a gem worthy of the highest peak. The owner of this piece was given it from a Super Adamas collector in Philadelphia, USA, in the early 2000s. When the owner was in New York and heard that the collector was going to hold an exhibition, he was so excited that he drove to the venue. When he opened the door, he found more than 20 Super Adamas on display. At the time, he was desperately looking for a red Super Adamas, and after careful selection, this one was chosen. The feeling of finally having the best Super Adamas was indescribable.
Since then, it has been used with great care while undergoing maintenance. This Super Adamas was made in 1979, color number "2". The color is characterized by its vivid red color. In Japan, the use by Shogo Hamada is very familiar. Not only the color, but also the lame scattered on the body is very much unique to this period. It is a piece that is beautiful just by displaying it in your room, and it has an appearance that fully satisfies your desire for ownership.
In addition, the wood knobs on the body side, stereo output, maintenance holes on the side of the body back, and clear coating on the neck and headstock give it an even more luxurious appearance. It is packed with the charm of the time.
The sound is impressive. The body top is made of 0.79 mm birch sandwiched between two thin sheets of carbon graphite," explains Charlie Kamaan, "and is 1.27 mm thick. The thickness of the top of an acoustic guitar is less than 3mm at the thinnest, so that number is truly the limit of what is possible. The body has a powerful, driving sound, and the volume is tremendous. The field sound caused by the vibration of the thin board is hard to experience in other models.
The recent price hikes of precious models are a big hurdle to overcome when making a decision, but in this case, it is fate that you have encountered it.
I am very glad that I made up my mind at that time. We are confident that you will be able to say, "I'm so glad I made the decision..." when you see this piece.
