Vintage D-35 with Hakaranda grain running vigorously and fascinating to look at
Martin / 1969 D-35
Martin's first D-35 with a three-piece back body was prototyped in 1965 and officially introduced in 1966. At the time of its release, the D-45 and D-41 were not available, so it was positioned as a high-end model next to the D-28.
The binding is applied not only to the body but also to the neck, giving it a high-class look that is characteristic of higher-end models.
This 1969 model is equipped with a square rod, a large Hakaranda bridge plate, and Grover tuners with "PAT PEND" engraved on the bridge plate.
The body was made of Hakaranda (Brazilian rosewood).
Since the body wood was changed to East Indian rosewood around this time, compared to the D-18 and D-28, which have a much longer history than the D-35, the Hakaranda body wood is rare and scarce by far.
The Hakaranda grain runs vigorously throughout the guitar, making it an exquisite guitar that can be enjoyed even by the casual observer.
The three-piece back has a less bass tone than the D-28, giving it a brighter and more extended tone. The added characteristics of the one and only Hakaranda wood give it better separation, more brilliance in the treble, and more fullness in the sound.
It is well-balanced from strokes to fingers, making it a perfect model for musicians who play in a narrative style.

[CONDITION]
The neck and head top have been refinished and redecaled at that time. It is difficult to distinguish from the original, but the binding on the body top is 8-ply instead of the usual 6-ply.
The pickguard has been replaced, and there is a crack repair and reinforcement on the lower right part of the pickguard. A strap pin has been installed at the neck end.
All of the instruments have been meticulously maintained and are in very modern, easy-to-play condition.
Other than this, the condition of the neck and wood has been inspected and adjusted by a professional acoustic guitar craftsman, and all parts are in excellent condition.
The neck is straight with no chatter or jamming, and the string height at the 12th fret is optimally set at 2.3 mm on the 6th string side and 1.8 mm on the 1st string side.
The remaining saddle is about 2.0 to 2.5 mm.
The beautiful tone with bounce can be enjoyed because it has been carefully maintained.
