Gibson / 1963 LG-1
The LG-1 is an entry-level model designed for beginning students and casual players
The body is a compact "concert" size, approximately 14.25 inches wide, making it small and easy to handle.
The top is made of solid spruce and has ladder bracing. This ladder bracing is simpler than the X bracing on the LG-2 and LG-3, but its unique tone is appealing.
The LG-1 presented here is a 1963 LG-1.
In this age, the original has a plastic bridge.
It has a unique airy feel, which is attractive enough, but it is rare to see a complete one because it is cracked or floating.
The bridge was also cracked and distorted when it arrived, so we made a new bridge using Hakaranda wood.
The sound had a lot of potential to begin with, so when I played the finished product, I couldn't help but smile.
Compared to the LG-2 (B-25), the looser, more sultry sound has an almost addictive appeal.
And please try to play it in a whole note lower tuning. The wound strings are a bit jumpy due to lack of tension, but even this is an accent that accentuates the character of the instrument.
Even though it is an entry-level model, it is not to be underestimated.
