Since 1894, Gibson has been making electric and acoustic guitars, archtop guitars, mandolins/banjos, and other musical instruments that everyone knows today.
The Jumbo 55 (J-55) is one of the most popular flat-top guitars in the Gibson Jumbo series.
The first guitar in the series was the GIBSON JUMBO, which was introduced in 1934. The specs of spruce top, mahogany side and back, 14-fret joint, and round shoulder body were carried over to the JUMBO-35 (J-35), and the Gibson Jumbo 55 (J-55) was released in 1939 as its upper model.
The production period of this rare instrument was only from 1939 to 1943 (the period was a time of confusion and upheaval, including the Great Depression that began in 1929 and the World War that followed while the effects of the depression were still felt).
As a round-shoulder model, it can be said to be connected to the appearance of the J-45 and the Southern Jumbo.
And this one was made in 1941. It is characterized by specification changes from the previous period, such as bad wing bridge, slot saddle, and tapered head. The shape seems to be closer to the J-45 that appeared the following year.
The neck is thick and comfortable to hold. The powerful, fat, dry sound is pleasantly resonant. This model is historically rare, but also sounds great as a working acoustic guitar.
