Gibson / 2000 SJ-200

The Gibson SJ-200, also known as the ' King of Flat-Tops ' and still popular as Gibson's flagship model.
A 2000 model has just arrived.

This model dates back to pre-war times.
It is known that in 1937, Ray Whitley, a popular western movie actor and singer, teamed up with Gibson to produce this model. At the time, it was considered effective to promote new guitars by producing and selling models based on popular movie actors. The gorgeous decorations and large bodies may have been designed to catch people's attention.

Since its release in 1938, the guitar has been used by Elvis Presley, Bob Duran, George Harrison ( The Beatles ), Jimmy Page ( Led Zeppelin ), and Pete Townsend ( The Beatles ), as well as by many other famous musicians, Pete Townsend ( The Who ), Emmylou Harris, The Edge ( U2 ), Ron Wood ( Rolling Stones ), and many other musicians.

Production stopped once during the war, but was re-released in 1947. The label was labeled SJ-200, perhaps a remnant of the prewar period, but from that time on, it was marketed as J-200, and a new color variation, blonde (natural), was also introduced. After that, specification changes peculiar to Gibson, such as pegs, bridge, pickguard, etc., were made repeatedly.

The SJ-200 in stock this time has a beautiful natural finish, and
the neck and entire body have just the right amount of flame, giving it an elegant appearance befitting Gibson's top-of-the-line models.
This one resembles the characteristics of the late 1950s with its Cruson-type gold tuners, no-border engraved pickguard, mustache bridge with watermark, and checkered backstrip.

The super jumbo body produces a bright, gorgeous, and bouncy sound.
The bass register, which tends to be a bit weak, is also strong, and the tone is colorful and elegant.

Recently, there are fewer opportunities to see the flagship model J-200, even in new products.
After it arrived at our store, a dedicated acoustic craftsman made adjustments in pursuit of playability and sound, and we recommend this unit, which is in good playing condition and shows its full potential.

-This guitar has a repaired crack on the 6 string side of the fingerboard end of the body top (patch reinforced)
-This is a very cool one, checkered by age.
-No chatter, clogging, or other problems.
-String height on the 12th fret: 2.5mm on the 6th string side, 2.0mm on the 1st string side
-Saddle protrusion: approx. 4.5mm to 5.0mm
