Gibson / 1966~67 Dove Cutaway Custom
Dove is a square-shouldered model released in 1962 as a higher version of Hummingbird. This is a very rare one with a florentine cutaway similar to the CF-100E. It is probably a prototype or a one-time special order. Based on the serial number and other specs, we estimate that it was manufactured around 1966-67. The tortoiseshell pickguard with no pictorial design is also distinctive.
Spruce top, maple back and side body, one-piece mahogany neck, 25 1/2 scale, non-scalloped X bracing, and Kluson VX-501 aka "waffleback" nickel tuners. The subdued sunburst color also creates a tasteful atmosphere. Crown inlays on the head and double parallelogram position inlays give it a gorgeous appearance, while the T.O.M. saddles are characteristic of '60s Doves, with beautiful dove-shaped inlays on both sides.
The sound is bright and light, but with a solid core and good separation.
