In 1974, Yamaha introduced the "L-series" lineup, which was designed to be more upscale. The first model was the "L-31". This model was a luxury sublimation of the FG-2000, and led to the Custom Series released in 1975. The "L" in the series name stands for "Luxury," and this series consisted of the highest grade models among the FG, N, and L series lined up at that time. Furthermore, the four models in the L series lineup from 1975 are commonly known as the "Four Heavenly Kings," an ostentatious title, and all four models are eye-catching in their distinctive appearance and design.
The LS-50 Custom made in 1987 is introduced here. In 1985, 10 years after the birth of the L series in 1974, the new L series was announced, further upgrading the L series production know-how. The model names were divided by shape, and the lineup included LL/LD/LA, etc. Considering that the legendary guitar designer "Terry Nakamoto" was with Yamaha until 1988, the new L series was the last lineup he left behind at Yamaha.
The rosette, purfling, headstock, and fingerboard are all very intricate and beautifully formed, and the body shape is the closest to that of the later "TJ" in Terry's Terry lineup.
The sound is very different from the YAMAHA sound of the 1960s~early 1980s. The sound is clean and cohesive, and the muddiness of the sound when playing chords is almost unlimited. The sound is well-balanced and extends as far as it will go while maintaining a hall-like feel, making you feel as if you are playing a keyboard instrument. It is such a wonderful instrument that it is like being shown the optimal solution as a chord instrument.
