Martin / 1976 D-76 "Bicentennial Commemorative Limited Edition".
This model was released to commemorate the bicentennial of the founding of the United States. 1976 pieces (200 in 1975 and 1776 in 1976) were produced in this limited edition. The head has a pearl eagle inlay and the fingerboard has a star-shaped inlay representing the 13 states at the time of independence.
It has the same 3-piece back construction as the D-35, but uses the same grade of wood as the D-45. The body top is made of Sitka spruce, the side backs are Indian rosewood, and the fingerboard and bridge are ebony. The pegs are original Grover, and the rosette and backstrip are attractively decorated with herringbone.
The sound impression still has the nuances of a 70's Martin, with a thumping low-mid sound throughout the body.
The true value of this instrument will be demonstrated with powerful strokes rather than delicate phrases.
