This is one of the Authentic Series guitars, reproducing the 1939 D-18 as faithfully as possible.
The top is made of Adirondack spruce with the VTS (Vintage Tone System) treatment, which mimics the cellular structure of aged vintage Martin tops and produces a sound similar to that of a guitar that has been played for a long time. The sides, back and neck are made of high-quality mahogany. The guitar has a stately appearance, and has the stature of a pre-war reproduction. In addition, the aged finish gives the guitar realistic cracks and scratches in the paint film, as well as the appearance of having been played and aged. The tasteful and austere appearance is unforgettable.
In addition to the ebony fingerboard and bridge and Waverly pegs, the bracing is the same rear-shifted scalloped bracing used in 1939. T-bars are used for the neck reinforcement rods, which affect the sound, and nikawa is used for gluing each part.
The pickguard is painted in, and you can see the wobbling grain of the adirondack spruce, just as it was in those days. This is another texture that will make guitar lovers groan.
The lightness felt the moment you hold it is exactly like the feeling of holding a pre-war D-18 in your hand, and the full-bodied mid-bass and ear-splitting high notes are pleasantly resonant. The whole guitar is ringing, with a deep reverb feel and a sleek, extended sustain. The 1937 specification is still in circulation, but the 1939 specification is a discontinued model and is rarely found in circulation.
