About TCGAKKI

Our store began in 1989 as a small shop called "Smash Hits," created by renovating the site of a former studio in Yutenji, Tokyo. Originally a sister store to Hyper Guitars, it primarily dealt in Fender, Gibson, and Bizarre instruments from the 70s onward. After relocating to Shin-Okubo (our current location), we renamed the shop "THE Used Instrument Store." We operated out of a space created by knocking down the walls between a 6-tatami and a 12-tatami room on the second floor of an old apartment building, which had a pachinko parlor on the first floor. The name change to "TCGAKKI" occurred several years after moving into our current building.

As a specialist in used and vintage instruments, we currently handle approximately 6,500 items ranging from guitars/Bass/acoustic guitars to wind instruments and traditional Japanese instruments. Specialists with over 20 years of experience are stationed in each sales area, providing professional consultation and assistance with appraisals of used instruments, customer requests, concerns, and inquiries.

"Advance Guitars" is a vintage acoustic guitar specialty shop that spun off from TCGAKKI. In 2023, it became the first Japanese music store to publish a reference book on Gibson guitars.
"Okubo Gakki" began as an independent store specializing in used and vintage wind instruments in 2013. It now operates as an agent for domestic and international brands, handling products from various countries.

The term "Japan Vintage" was coined by our store to distinguish our products from US vintage guitars purchased at American guitar shows in the 1980s. Our staff at the time, who were quick to recognize the high quality of Japanese-made instruments, began using this name with respect. The "stone logo" used in the late 1970s by Braverman Co., Ltd., which unfortunately went out of business, was also called "Ishi Nandesu" by us at the time.

Our in-house repair team, " TC-TUNE " not only repair, adjust, and clean instruments for display in our store, but also adjust, optimize, and modify instruments owned by professional and amateur players from our unique perspective and stance.

Our mission is "to make your life rock with instruments."
To that end, we work energetically every day to provide the best possible suggestions to customers who are dissatisfied with their current equipment or sound, or who are looking for something better, from a selection of thousands of items, including used, vintage, and New. We listen to their requests and circumstances and use the broad and deep knowledge of our specialist staff to ensure that they are glad they asked us and glad they consulted with us.

Currently, we directly sell new products in-store and online as authorized dealers for brands like "TMG Guitar" and "Bob Burt" from the US, and "Organic Sound" among many others domestically.

Sell Your Instruments!

We are currently accepting requests for instrument purchases from our customers. Instruments are not consumables. Fine instruments do not lose value with use; rather, their true worth is revealed through use.

Careers

A music store where we can sincerely say "thank you" from the bottom of our hearts

We always respect each other, genuinely care at times, and propose and act with a positive future in mind.

TCGAKKI is currently hiring staff. No experience necessary! Of course, experienced individuals and those currently working in the field are also very welcome.
This is your chance to challenge yourself and discover new possibilities. For experienced applicants, we are open to discussing terms and conditions.

We provide the kind of joy that makes you want to say, "I found the perfect instrument!" or and the joy of thinking, "Playing has become more fun somehow."

We don't want you to feel like you made a mistake after joining us, and we think it's a shame to give up on work you find fulfilling.
Within our company, ideas can blossom into products—like when an employee introduced their hobby yo-yo to the president at a drinking party, leading to an actual collaboration with a store. Or moments like finding a customer's long-sought instrument and celebrating with a high-five! There are countless opportunities to find joy through our work

. Our current employees are still learning too. Why not grow with us, accumulating customers' "thank yous" along the way?
