Born in Canada in 1988, Godin is a brand that continues to evolve while pursuing an acoustic, natural sound despite its electric construction.
The A5 Ultra Fretless model incorporates the body style that enjoys unwavering popularity in models such as the Elegatt into the Bass.
It features spruce top, silver leaf maple body, maple neck, and ebony fingerboard, along with an original magnetic pickup by Lace Sensor and RMC Custom piezo pickups that are completely independent for each string.
It also has a 13-pin GK cable output jack, allowing it to be used with Roland GK products.
The chambered body produces a sweet, rich, resonant sound unattainable with a solid body.
Controls include a master volume and magnetic pickup tone on the body side. Sliders on the body top adjust piezo pickup balance/volume, 3-band EQ, and GK equipment volume. The selector switch controls the mid-frequency.
Output jacks are separated into a piezo/magnetic Mix jack, a magnetic-only jack, and a GK jack, allowing separate output to different amplifiers.
While it offers versatile usage, its biggest appeal is likely the "user-friendly acoustic guitar sound" achieved simply by incorporating both magnetic and piezo pickups.
Godin's characteristic resistance to feedback is a huge advantage for the Electric AcousticBass, which is often used in band ensembles, directly translating to ease of use on stage.
