Martin / 2004 D-45
The D-45 debuted in the lineup in 1938. With its luxurious inlays and rich resonance, the D-45 was immediately adopted by numerous artists.
The Martin D-45 stands as the pinnacle model, often cited as a guitar one aspires to own someday.
This particular instrument is a 2000s model, making it a relatively accessible D-45.
Let's take a closer look at the details together.
ーNeck Wood Changes
While the neck shape has changed over the years since 1938, mahogany wood has consistently been used.
D-45s made with mahogany can be found up until 2003, but starting with the 2004 models, Select Hardwood is used.
Select Hardwood is a hardwood, just like mahogany.
It's a very hard wood, chosen by Martin for its strength as a neck material.
Its wood grain appears to have vessels similar to mahogany.

The body top features densely grained Sitka spruce.
Adorning the top, white cells and vibrant abalone shell purfling shimmer beautifully.
The bracing pattern is scalloped X-bracing.

The rosette features white and black celluloid inlay combined with abalone decoration.

The sides and back feature straight-grained Indian rosewood.
The beautiful contrast of light and dark tones is complemented by white cells and an abalone pearl ring, mirroring the top.

A colorful pattern is used for the backstrip.

The fingerboard is crafted from jet-black ebony, featuring the D-45's signature hexagon inlay with gem-like beauty from abalone shell.
Admire the naturally beautiful patterns unique to this material.

The down-bowed bridge, like the fingerboard, is made of ebony and features a short saddle.
The bridge pins also feature dot-shaped inlays crafted from abalone shell.

The Indian rosewood veneer headstock is adorned with Martin's vertical logo, signifying the pinnacle of their models, adding a touch of elegance.

Schaller M6 tuners, bearing the C.F. Martin engraving, are fitted.
The gold-plated and lacquered body adds to the luxurious feel.

While some weather checking is visible, this is a top-condition instrument with no cracks or repair history.
If you're thinking, "New is expensive, but I want a beautiful D-45," please give this one a try.
