A work of art revealed when you open the guitar case
Let us introduce the artistic SJ-200 VINE crafted by Gibson Custom Shop master luthier Ren Ferguson. His guitars feature artistic inlay work, including plants that seem to possess a life force. Ren Ferguson states his artistic sensibility was influenced by his mother, who was a draftsman and sculptor.
— Artistic Vines Exuding Vitality
A defining feature of Ren Ferguson's guitars is the artistic vine inlay spreading across the entire fingerboard and the pickguard carving. The iridescent vine inlay within the ebony is breathtaking at first sight.
The large tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard, edged in white celluloid, features hand-carved vine sculptures across its surface, with white ink accentuating the design.
The SJ body stands out with its finely grained spruce top, accented by abalone purfling and rosette.
Beautiful flamed maple is used for the sides and back, trimmed with abalone like the top. The back strip features Pattern A, seen around 1940.
The ebony open-moustache bridge typically features mother-of-pearl inlay, but here, additional abalone decoration surrounds the square inlay. This specification is truly unique to a custom guitar.
The neck features a 3-piece construction with flamed maple flanking a rosewood center.
The headstock features Gibson's script logo alongside an opulent vine inlay that shimmers with a brilliant luster. Additionally, the bell-shaped truss rod cover is crafted from mother-of-pearl and meticulously beveled. Multi-binding adorns the headstock perimeter.
WAVERLY open-back tuning machines are used, with each gold button individually carved with a vine motif. It offers a distinct luxury compared to Imperial or Waffleback finishes.
How about this one? It's a gem with a distinct charm, different from the classic SJ-200. While it shows minor playing scratches and weather checking, there are no noticeable dents or significant damage, maintaining a very clean condition.
It's the kind of piece that makes you feel like you own something truly special.
