The one and only Rock Bass Thunderbird IV in both sound and looks!
The Thunderbird was introduced in 1963, and the still popular shape was designed by Raymond H. Dietrich, an automotive designer who had worked for Chrysler for some time.
In 1965, the design was changed to a "non-reverse body," but within a few years it was changed to a "reverse body," and production ended in 1969. 1976 saw the reintroduction of the Thunderbird as a commemorative model for the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and it was sold until 1979, when production ended again. The Thunderbird IV was introduced in 1987.
The 1997 Thunderbird has a through-neck construction with nine layers of mahogany and walnut for excellent long sustain, and a mahogany body for rich depth in the mid and low registers.
It has a powerful, rounded low midrange that is truly a Thunderbird.
Although the Thunderbird is by no means all-powerful, its nuances when played with a pick and its cool looks make it uniquely appealing.
