Tokai Gakki, founded in 1947, entered the electric guitar market in 1977. It was by no means an early start. However, precisely because they were a latecomer, they thoroughly researched what the market demanded and how far they needed to refine their craft to be recognized as the real thing, ultimately releasing highly accomplished guitars.
An event symbolizing this high level of perfection occurred in 1984: the lawsuit with Fender. Ironically, this case, where Tokai was sued for producing copy products and lost, ended up demonstrating to the world that Tokai's Fender copies approached, or even surpassed, the precision of the originals. Since then, the Tokai name has gained high acclaim not only within Japan but also among overseas players and collectors.
This 1979 Telecaster-type model faithfully recreates a Fender Telecaster from around 1964. It features a rosewood fingerboard and a round-board construction where the neck is laminated along the fingerboard's radius, authentically reproducing the feel of the era. Even from a modern perspective, its playability and build quality are impeccable. In fact, you'll likely appreciate the excellence of this craftsmanship even more today.
