Martin / 1979 D-35
"A model conceived by Martin's computer division staff"

The 1960s were the height of the modern folk boom.
Martin's D-28 flew off the shelves as the iconic folk guitar model.
The D-28's sales pace exceeded production capacity, compounded by a looming timber shortage.
Using two-piece rosewood backs like the D-28 became increasingly difficult.
Then, Bob Johnson, a staff member in the product management computer department, proposed a three-piece back construction that could utilize smaller pieces of wood...

In 1955, the D-35 was born, featuring a spruce top and a three-piece rosewood back.
Compared to the D-28's bright, powerful sound, the D-35 featured well-balanced, controlled bass. By around 1970, its popularity reportedly surpassed that of the D-28.

This 1979 D-35 represents a model from that peak period of popularity.
It features a Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back (3-piece back), a rosewood bridge plate, and non-scalloped bracing.
Additionally, the pickguard and saddle have been replaced, and an L.R. Baggs Element pickup has been added, making it ready for immediate use on stage!
