"KING OF THE FLAT-TOPS" 1940 Original SJ-200
Gibson / 1940 SJ-200
The J-200, known as the " King of the Flat-Tops" and still reigns as Gibson's flagship model.
In 1937, Ray Whitley, a popular western movie actor and singer, collaborated with Gibson to develop a jumbo-sized guitar, which led to the introduction of the SUPER JUMBO "200" in 1938.
It has been used by many musicians such as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, George Harrison (The Beatles), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Pete Townsend (The Who), Emmylou Harris, Edge (U2), and Ron Wood (Rolling Stones). This is an original SJ-200 made in 1940.
The number of original SJ-200s manufactured between 1938 and 1941 is recorded to be 96, making it an extremely rare model comparable to the 91 so-called Pre-War D-45s.
This particular model has a rosewood sideback, which is typical of prewar models, and also features an ebony mustache bridge with independent adjustable saddles for each string.
A closer look reveals that the pickguard has a late 50's pattern, and the bracing structure of the body top suggests that it was factory retoped in the 50's.
Nowadays, J-200s from the 50s are also precious vintage.
The combination of the two is almost impossible to achieve today, so you can understand how special and extravagant this particular piece is.
The head is decorated with a script logo and crown inlay,
The back of the stinger-embossed head is equipped with a Crewdson Seal Fast tuner with a strong presence of peg buttons.
The ultimate feature is the strap-pin fixing hardware attached to the head and body end. This is also an original prewar SJ-200 specification, and you can fully feel the charm from these vintage parts.
Only a limited number of people can have this vintage supreme.
In terms of sound, this is a great guitar that is distinctly different from the post-reproduction J-200, and you can experience the tremendous volume of this guitar.

The condition of the neck and wood has been inspected and adjusted by a professional acoustic guitar craftsman and is in excellent condition in all areas.
The neck has been straightened and adjusted with no chatter or jamming, and the string height at the 12th fret is set at 2.5mm on the 6th string and 2.0mm on the 1st string.
