Gibson / 1956 J-185
Vintage J-185 produced for only 9 years from 1951 to 1959.
It is a 16 1/4" wide jumbo body style, one size smaller than J-200.
The simple decoration gives it a very attractive Gibson-like appearance.
The body is made of maple, the same as the J-200, and the body back is filled with tiger grain, which is hidden by the simple decorations, but still has a strong presence.
The head and fingerboard are decorated with pearl inlays in the familiar style of the Southern Jumbo, and the original upper belly type bridge has a Maltese cross embedded in it.
The medium scale has a very attractive loose Gibson-like sound and comfortable playing feel.
The bass sound is less powerful than that of the J-200, but it has an unmistakably crisp and sharp sound.
This is a rare J-185 from the 50s with no replacement parts, and is highly original.
[Condition.]
The condition of the neck and wood has been inspected and adjusted by a professional acoustic guitar craftsman, and all parts are in excellent condition.
The neck has been straightened and adjusted without any chatter or jamming, and the string height at the 12th fret is optimally set at 2.5mm on the 6th string and 2.0mm on the 1st string.
The saddle protrusion is approximately 2mm.
