As a saxophonist, I actually tried it out myself, and...
it works great! I don’t feel any discomfort when playing it either! (I’m using a Selmer S90 Series 180 mouthpiece.)
The tone has a solid core, and it plays great across the entire range.
The articulation is crisp, so it seems like a great fit for pop music—it has more of a JAVA (green) nuance than Bandlen’s blue box!
On the flip side, when I tried to play softly with a “p” articulation, the response was so sensitive that it felt like only the tip of the reed was making a high-pitched “peep” sound. It might be a bit difficult to produce soft, airy tones…!
This aspect will likely vary depending on the setup and the stiffness of the reed you choose. ◯
