Hello everyone! The effector column is the world's first commercial wow pedal. Eh? Yes! Even if I look around the world, I found a very rare real machine that I was not able to find.
We have to refrain from the beginning, but the music of the effector mania, which has been published by shinko music, which is often taken care of, and the handling and cooperation cooperation has been published, is "the effector book". Since the writer, Mr. Mahei Hosokawa and kazuhee (Texas blood), have written a wonderful article in detail in Vol. 2, this time, it is shameful, and it is written in respect of the article in respect of the duplication, and it is written in the second.
The Wah pedal is the longest ever effector, along with fuzz, a sound like trumpet player (Wah Wah). In principle, it is an effector using a filter circuit with an inherent resonance frequency, and a variable resistor (pot) is operated directly by a pedals. The variable resistor (pot) and the pedal are linked by rack and pinion system. Even today, even in the development of electrical technology, this classic circuit is favored by many guitarists and remains mainstream.
This filter circuit is an LC resonance circuit using an inductor and a capacitor. Resonance frequency (peak) and peak height (q) determined by the inductor and capacitor create a tone color. Although it is a simple circuit with a very small number of parts, there is a big difference in the sound obtained by the difference of this inductor, the capacitor, and the pot and the transistor (individual difference).
Now, let's look at the history of the wow pedal..
Vox is the most successful brand that released the phantom series guitar, ac-15, ac-30, ac-100 (super Beatle), and others in the British 1960's in mid 1960's British investment. The company that offered the vox brand was JMI (Jennings music industries) in the United Kingdom, and it was U. s.thomas company that carried out the import agency business in the United States.
Thomas organ has been working on the development of a vox amplifier jointly with JMI. The ac-100 "super Beatle" that the Beatles used was by Thomas organ. It is said that when the engineer of Thomas organ engineer Brad prunkett was improved by the midline booster circuit installed in the "super Beatle" amplifier. Based on it, JMI completed the prototype prototype in vox volume pedal which was already commercialized. This is an event of around 66. The prototype seems to have been delivered directly to the original musicians such as Jimi Hendrix.
For commercialization, Italy's EME (electronica musicale Europe) contracted. Emme was a company founded by JMI and Thomas organ in Italy in the early '60s and a joint venture with musical instruments manufacturer eko3 in Italy, and produced vox guitar and organ. In February, 67, the first commercially available vox wow was named "the case McCoy Wah Wah peal". Clyde McCoy (1903-1990) was a trumpet player, known for playing with a waw mute (hand or mute), and his caricature was drawn on the back lid of the pedal. The release time is estimated from the release time of the VOx / Thomas organ promotion record of the wow pedal. Also, the caricature of Clyde McCoy disappeared in about 68 and was changed to only the logo. At the end of the year, there is a thing that does not mention anything in the back lid. In particular, the pictorial model is "picture", the only model of the logo is "signature", and the undescribed model is called "no logo".
The sound of the Wai pedals that has not appeared can be heard in "the rhythm of braves Ulysses" (recorded by may 67) recorded by Eric Clapton's second album "Disclaimer Games". Eric Clapton bought Clyde McCoy wh at the recording shop "Mannys" in New York 48th street during the recording. It is great to use the unknown effector just to get the famous songs in the history. In the late 67's, there was a demand for Thomas organ, a vox agency in the US market, and crybaby was introduced. It was manufactured by Emme of Italy as well as "Clyde McCoy", and the contents were the same, and the initial thing was called "top logo" because the logo was put in the upper part of the pedal with the rounded sleeve case.
"Cryde McCoy" changes from "picture" to "logo" in "68", and "crybaby" is changed to the usual case case, and it becomes "crybaby model 95-910511".
In '69,' cryde McCoy changed the name of the wah-wah model v846.
From '69 to' 70, jeen eletronica became independent from EME and succeeded in producing vox wow and released "crybaby" by the company brand.

Jen later produced 'voh250.049 / 250.414' for Europe in the mid-1980s, 'crybaby 310.001 (250.046)' of the company brand, and 'crybaby super 250.422 / 250.394' from the late 70s.
Around 72, we also produced "Wah Wah model v846" and "crybaby 95-910511" at the factory of Sepulveda in Thomas organ.

Birth of American WOW The factory moved to Chicago in the mid-70s. Since Jen registered the name of "crybaby" at the same time, Thomas was unable to use the name "crybaby", and changed the name "wah-wah model 9-3704". In the transitional individual, there are some stickers attached from the top of the crybaby logo of the front plate and the back lid.
In addition, the Chicago period was changed from Thomas (Thomas intra national Corp. Chicago, Illinos) to Thomas organ Co., chikago, Illinois.

The OEM (counterpart brand production) model is known as the model of the production of an American instrument instrument king, "vox Wah top logo" from Italy in the 1960s, and the model of Jen manufacturing in the 70's of America's "vox Wah model 95-932011" and "Dah factory" of DAILA arbitter (sound City).
And in the mid-80s, Jen also transferred and sold it to Dunlop.

As for the first Clyde McCoy wow, the above "Tales of braves Ulysses (Heroic Ulysses)" (recorded in May 67) and "crest of the midnight lamp (Midnight lamp)" (recorded in July 67) and "voodoo child", which left the name of "white room", began It is known that Jimi Hendrix loves the wild wow play of the American state "Star Spangled Banner" in Woodstock. Jimi used crybaby "top logo" and King vox Wah "top logo". There is a story that two people were influenced by Frank Zappa who used the wow pedal at a stage early at that time and used it. After that, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Santana, Nile Rogers, Michael Schenker, Stevie Ray Vaughan... From the blues, psychedelic and Seoul music, it is a pedal that is loved by a wide genre of hard rock.
The wow pedal is very simple effector, but I think that it is very deep because of the large difference in sound.
Moreover, it is a musical instrument that overflows the human race with the guitarist manipulating directly, raising the scream to the guitar as it is, and screaming♪ Add a facial expression or color flavor to the phrase, make the effect as if the guitar is talking, tone booster, and the guitarist's personality will come out♪ It is also possible to adjust the frequency range to the preference by shifting one side and two mountains of gears.
