Do you like Telecasters?

 

 

Telecasters are the best, aren't they?

They have a sound and feel that’s hard to replicate.

I’d say the biggest advantage of the TL model is that sharp, punchy sound produced by the fixed bridge.

 

That’s why, for players who use a wide variety of guitars—including Fender models—the main drawback of the TL model is likely the lack of a vibrato system.

 

“I want to turn my Telecaster into a tremolo!”

It’s a desire that often takes hold of us.

 

Even Fender, the original manufacturer, released a Telecaster equipped with a Bigsby in the 1960s, so there has long been a demand to be able to rock the TL-type with a tremolo arm!

Recently, the “SUPER VEE Maverick” tremolo unit—known for being used by MIYAVI—has also been making waves, but since it requires a large cutout in the back of the body, similar to a Stratocaster, it’s not exactly a simple modification to undertake. Once installed, it’s impossible to fully restore the guitar to its original state, so it takes some courage.

The Bigsby is a perfect match for the Telecaster, especially given its design. However, since you have to drill several screw holes in a prominent area—and the bridge itself is no longer a TL-type—the sound changes quite a bit. It still turns out to be a pretty good guitar, though. But for the theme of this project, it’s a bit of a tough sell.

 

Amid all this, the Vega-Trem VT2 Teletrem appeared like a comet.

 

 

Believe it or not, this bridge is a vibrato system that can be easily installed on a Telecaster without requiring any routing.

Amazing!

 

 

Here’s what it looks like once installed. It doesn’t detract from the Telecaster’s classic look, but it has a cool “something’s going on here” vibe.

The tremolo arm with the VT logo stands out, but there’s also a version without it (at the same price).

 

But how is it possible to use the tremolo arm without requiring a routing cut?

 

Here’s the secret

It’s a bit confusing at first, isn’t it?

 

 

Here’s what I mean:

The vibrato system requires, above all else, a “spring,” but

 

but surprisingly, by using the Telecaster’s string-through holes to create a spring that fits perfectly, no additional machining is required.

 

 

 By attaching a special part to the back, you can adjust the torque by how tightly you tighten it.

Amazing.

 

For the front mounting, a plate separate from the bridge is secured with two screws, and then the bridge body—which has the spring attached—simply snaps into place with the tabs.

“But won’t the screws come loose?!”

Some of you might be thinking that, but it seems it’s not quite possible to avoid any modification at all.

However, these screw holes are hidden directly beneath the plate, so even if you switch back to the original bridge, you won’t see any marks—a thoughtful design.
