くぼ管なかむらのケース通信 トランペット&フリューゲルホルンケース編 - TC楽器 - TCGAKKI

This is Nakamura from Kubokan.

In this post, I’d like to introduce a case for trumpeters across the country.

Whether you’re in a big band or a wind ensemble, there’s one thing that’s a real hassle to carry around... your trumpet and flugelhorn.

Carrying two cases, a bag, and a music stand. “Oh no, it’s raining—I can’t hold an umbrella…” If this sounds like your daily struggle,

Please feel free to contact Nakamura for a consultation.

For those of you wondering, “So, what kinds of cases are there…?” here’s a comprehensive look at our double cases!!

*To answer questions like, “Will this manufacturer’s flugelhorn fit?”, we’ve categorized them by size!

Small Size: YAMAHA, COUESNON, MARCATO

Medium Size: JUPITER, later-model COUESNON

Medium+α Size: QUEEN BRASS, V.BACH 183, GETZEN

Large Size: CONN (Vintage One), VAN LAAR, COURTOIS

Extra-Large Size: COURTOIS AC156NR

Please note that many manufacturers have different winding methods depending on the model and era. Please consider this information as a general guide only. We will continue to add manufacturers for which we have verified actual storage compatibility as we go.

●BRASS BAGS: PFTGB

This is a British manufacturer. Since their products are rarely carried in Japan, you probably don’t come across them very often. However, many players overseas use them.

It weighs 3.3 kg. In terms of durability, it falls somewhere between a soft and a hard case… because it features acrylic panels inserted into all four sides. While many people shy away from soft cases, this one is sturdy enough to carry around town. We’ve noticed that many customers who purchase this are upgrading from the Marcus Bona Triple Case, which we’ll discuss later.

It easily fits up to the medium size, and depending on the model, it might even fit a slightly larger one... It’s that kind of size. It’s convenient because it can also hold mutes and a music stand. A custom leather version is also available.
Be sure to check out this summary of Brass Bags as well

●GARD BAGS 5-ECSK (Triple)

Weight: 2.9 kg. This model belongs to GARD BAGS’ “Elite Series” and features a distinctive two-tone brown leather finish. While it’s slightly heavier than the all-black models that were widely available in the past, it’s also much more durable. A while back, the red-and-black two-tone case with the V. Bach logo was all the rage—and actually, that case was also made by GARD BAGS. I’d recommend this for users of small-sized instruments like Yamaha models, though it’s a tight fit for medium-sized ones.

It has two pockets, which is convenient for keeping small items organized. It’s also nice that a rain cover is included. While it’s sturdy enough for everyday use, those who frequently ride crowded trains should exercise caution.

●GARD BAGS 9-ECSK (Trumpet & Flugelhorn)

This is the larger version of the Elite Series mentioned above. It’s truly revolutionary—or rather, it even accommodates large sizes like the VAN LAAR. Although it’s large, this is great news for those who previously had no way to carry everything together. Domestic stock is extremely limited, and it’s common to have to wait half a year for restocking, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out soon!

>It was also able to accommodate the extra-large Courtois model and the Nakaryakov model.

●MARCUS BONNA MB03TP

Weighing 4.1 kg, this case is highly popular as a standard model for trumpets and flugelhorns. It comes in a wide variety of colors and is both sturdy and durable. The interior fabric feels wonderful, making its enduring popularity easy to understand. We’ve confirmed it can accommodate instruments up to medium to slightly larger sizes. It’s also excellent as a case for two trumpets and a piccolo trumpet, offering high versatility, and is particularly popular among music college students.

●MARCUS BONNA MBTPFH

Weight: 3.7 kg. This model is not officially sold in Japan. Unlike the “Triple” model mentioned above, it is designed exclusively for trumpets and flugelhorns. With dimensions of 550 (H) × 280 (W) × 200 (D), it is narrower than the “Triple” but slightly deeper.
Its most notable feature is its ability to accommodate even large-sized flugelhorns. We highly recommend this case to anyone looking for a durable case that can hold a large-bore instrument.

●PROTEC: PB301F

It can be used as a backpack with a separately sold strap and has plenty of room for sheet music, but there’s no space for mutes or other accessories. Priced in the low 20,000 yen range, it’s a great choice for those who prioritize affordability and need to transport a large instrument.

●PROTER IP301T

This is the standard model of the triple-instrument case. It’s designed to be slightly roomier than the Marcus Bona and can hold three B♭ trumpets. We’ve confirmed it accommodates instruments up to medium size and slightly larger. It also has enough space for a few mutes. While the IP301F mentioned earlier holds the instruments more securely, the IP301T wins out in terms of versatility.

●PROTEC: BLT301T

I’ve also featured it on Twitter.
This model was newly released in the fall of 2018. It features significant changes—from the exterior to the texture of the interior padding—and stands out with a design that looks almost like it’s from a different manufacturer. Made of slightly metallic ABS resin, it has a textured finish to minimize the appearance of scratches. It comes with casters for easy transport and is also compatible with backpack-style carriers.
It can accommodate medium-sized instruments, such as the Jupiter. Despite this, it’s lightweight at about 3 kg and priced at around 30,000 yen. I, Nakamura, snapped one up as soon as it went on sale. I’ve been using it for a full two years, and both the exterior and interior show almost no wear and tear—its durability is excellent. It comes in three colors: silver, navy, and black.

●BAGS: Quad
I don’t think there’s any other case this compact that can hold four trumpets... While it isn’t particularly light, its ultra-slim design means you don’t feel the weight when carrying it on your back. When using it for trumpets and flugelhorns, it can accommodate flugelhorns up to medium size or slightly larger. However, due to its slim profile, it’s difficult to fit trumpets with a bell diameter of 135 mm or larger.

●CRONKHITE: Super Triple
https://www.tcgakki.com/items10/tc100670.html

Weighs 2.7 kg. Can hold a trumpet, piccolo, or flugelhorn. It cannot be worn as a backpack; it’s designed for shoulder carry only. While it may be slightly less convenient, the overwhelming coolness of the leather and its outstanding storage capacity more than make up for it.With its meticulous stitching and thick padding, there’s something about it that makes you want to “try it out” at first glance. The list price is around 120,000 yen, which is quite expensive, and it’s not a case you come across very often. If you’re still interested or want to give it a try, please feel free to contact us.

We’ve shared photos of cases currently in stock at our store or ones we’ve carried in the past.
Of course, if there’s enough demand, we can carry other cases as well, so please feel free to reach out (^^)
