B.C.Rich / Seagull Bass
Bernardo Chavez Rico, a native of East Los Angeles, California, has been making classical guitars, ukuleles, banjos, etc. since the 1950s. In 1972, B.C. Rich introduced its first original shape, the Seagull guitar. Already at this time, the identity of B.C. Rich as a through-neck, active-circuit guitar was established.
Each guitar was almost handmade, and in the early days, many were prototypes, with the shape still undecided, and differences could be seen in each one. It is interesting to think that this form developed into the company's representative models such as the Eagle and Mockingbird released in 1976. The active bass models that emerged in the 1970s, such as the ALEMBIC and MUSIC MAN, were very popular in the music scene of the time. In particular, B.C.Rich's eccentric body shape, which resembles a bird (Seagull, Eagle, Mockingbird), was especially popular among rockers at the time, and its use by AEROSMITH, KISS, and others ignited its popularity.
This Seagull Bass was released in 1973, following the Seagull guitar, and is believed to be an extremely early model, as it does not yet have a serial number, which was imprinted around 1975. The body wing and through neck are all mahogany, with a 34" scale, 24-fret fingerboard, and a heel-less joint. Two "HI-A" pickups designed by Bill Bartolini, who later became the Bartolini brand, are installed. The bridge is made of the original "BADDAS" bridge (BADDAS I), which has not yet been branded. The control assembly is characteristic of B.C.Rich, and includes a master volume, PU select toggle switch, booster on/off switch and preset volume, master tone, 6-position varitone switch, IN/OUT phase switch, and dual sound switches. dual sound switches. Both the woodwork and electronics were the latest technology available at the time.
The neck and electrical system have been well adjusted by our repairman and are in good condition.
The neck is straight and the string height is set about 1.6mm~1.2mm above 12F.
This very early Seagull Bass was produced in very small numbers, and the original parts, including the original hard case, are highly original, making this a gem that collectors can recommend with confidence. The powerful and varied sound is of course unique, and the eye-catching, one-of-a-kind looks are sure to be a hit on stage. This is a rare model on the vintage market, so don't miss it if you are interested!
