2022 GIBSON Small Body Acogi Fair
Gibson's representative model of small body "B-25". The first smallbody guitar was the L-1 in 1902, 120 years ago. In 1932, the L-00, the prototype of the B-25, was introduced In 1942, the L-00 was replaced by the LG-2 (sunburst) and LG-3 (natural) In 1962, LG-2 was renamed B-25, and in 1963, LG-3 was renamed B-25 Natural. The difference in model names seems to have been classified according to the presence or absence of coloring and the grade of wood. This characteristic is similar to the relationship between the J-45 and J-50, with the natural top spruce costing more because it was knotless. Since the introduction of the B-25 in 1962, there have been more variations in color and Natural, sunburst, cherry sunburst (used for LG-2 in 1961), and between 1967 and 1969, black, brown, and red were available.
The basic wood specs are the same as those of Gibson's traditional acoustic guitars: spruce top, mahogany body In terms of sound, the crisp mid-range image familiar from the J-45.J-50 has been retained, while the X-bracing has been adopted despite the 14 1/8" width and 2" smaller body size, giving the impression that its character can be heard more clearly. It responds well to the player's playing, so it shows its true value in strong strokes and cutting, while on the other hand, it is a little weak on arpeggios in ballads. Even when played strongly, the B-25 does not produce an extra low midrange, so it does not interfere with vocals, and even when mixed with an ensemble, it does not cover the bandwidth of the bass guitar, so if you ask me which acoustic guitar I recommend for live performances, I would first recommend the B-25. It has been 60 years since its birth this year, and although it is not as well-known as the J-45 and J-50, famous Japanese artists such as Tamio Okuda, Sugashicao, Minamoto Hoshino, and Hanana Uemura have used the B-25.
